‘Second Saturdays’ aim to celebrate art and community

PITTSBURG, Kan. — The Pittsburg Arts Council (PAC) will soon be launching Second Saturdays, a monthly community event aimed at fostering creativity, supporting local artists, and bringing together the entire Pittsburg community to celebrate the arts.

The first event in this series, "Craft of Art — An Artist Talk,” will feature area authors and take place at 3 p.m. Aug. 12 at TOAST, located in Downtown Pittsburg. During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with published authors Lori Martin, Chris Anderson, Olive L. Sullivan and Casie Hermansson.

These accomplished authors span various genres, including fiction, poetry, drama, and children's writing, and they will share insights into their personal creative processes. The event will feature interactive discussions and a Q&A session, offering attendees an immersive experience into the world of literature and artistic expression.

PAC plans to make Second Saturdays more than just a one-time event, with the long-term hope that it becomes a beacon of support and growth for the local art community and the community at large.

With this monthly community event, the organization’s mission is to: cultivate local talent, foster community spirit, boost local economy, make art appreciation more accessible, spotlight diverse artistic expression, nurturing collaboration and provide community growth.

The PAC is inviting all members of the community — local businesses, organizations and individuals — to participate in Second Saturdays by hosting their own events on the second Saturday of each month. From art exhibitions to live performances, workshops, and more, this is an opportunity to contribute to the cultural fabric of the town and showcase creativity.

The Pittsburg Arts Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the arts in Pittsburg. For more information about Second Saturdays and the Pittsburg Arts Council, email pittsburgartscouncil@gmail.com.
