Pittsburg State played host to a Last Chance outdoor track and field meet on Friday at Carnie Smith, and it's just what the name implies.
It's one last chance for athletes to improve their times, distances and heights in the final weekend before qualifiers for the NCAA Outdoor Championships are announced early next week.
Many of the Gorillas' top runners did not participate in the meet, but some throwers, jumpers and pole vaulters did look for a mark better than they had already recorded.
Kyla Davis, fresh from winning an MIAA championship last weekend, cleared 13 feet, 9.75 inches in the pole vault. This came after she missed her first two attempts of the day.
Shelbi Day went 12-2 in the pole vault.
Abby Lasiter went 44-4 in the shot put and 166-6 in the hammer throw, and Addison Hinterweger had a throw of 147-11 on her final attempt in the discus, which was almost five feet farther than her previous best in this meet.
Bailey Monroe hit 149-5 in the javelin, and Makayla Watson leaped 18-9.25 in the long jump.
On the track, Jamiya Morgan and Taniya Looney ran 23.92 and 24.10 seconds, respectively, in the 200 meters.
For the PSU men's team, Diego Contreras won the 1,500 meters at 3:50.06. Daylin Williams, normally a high hurdler, ran 10.57 in the 100 meters, which was 0.02 seconds faster than teammate Makai Blades.
Sam Tudor and Nizar Alarahshun ran 47.72 and 48.20, respectively, in the 400.
In the field, Jaylynn Ellerbe-Cundiff jumped 24-8.50 in the long jump, and Will Ellis went 44-5.75 in the triple jump. Britton Gage cleared 15-5.75 in the pole vault.
Among the throwers, Cole Sample hit 57-2.50 in the shot put and 182-3 in the hammer, Konner Swenson threw 199-0 in the hammer and Caleb Calvin threw 231-2 in the javelin.
