Prisoner walks away from Wichita facility; surrenders later that night

WICHITA, Kan. — Minimum-custody resident Kyler K. Milbrandt was placed on escape status after it was reported that he walked away from Wichita Work Release Facility at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2023.

Milbrandt, a 29-year-old American-Indian male serving sentences for drug possession, theft and aggravated assault in Reno County, was reported missing when he did not return to the facility after work.

Milbrandt turned himself in to the Wichita Work Release Facility at 1:30 a.m. and placed under arrest. He will be charged with one count of escape.

The Wichita Work Release Facility, a satellite unit of the Winfield Correctional Facility, is an all-male, minimum-custody state prison with a population of 146.
