Mary Jane Riney

Mary Jane Riney, 83, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Via Christi Village where she had resided for the last three years.

The rosary will be recited at 1 p.m. and Catholic Mass at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30th at Our Lady of Lourdes in Pittsburg. Friends may call after the Mass.

Mary Jane was born in Kansas City, MO, the oldest of three children, born to Joseph and Genevieve Hanis (Andrews). She graduated from Wyandotte High School, attended Donnelly College, was a homemaker, and was actively involved in the PTA. She worked for AT&T for 25 years and volunteered her photography and videography talents for various family and friend events. She was married to Kenneth Koscielny for 23 years, with whom she had two daughters, Kristy and Tracy.

Mary Jane enjoyed the camaraderie and music while singing in several choirs, and most recently sang in the choir at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overland Park. She also enjoyed getting out and playing a round of golf, and she was the Brookridge Country Club Ladies Senior Champion in 2014. She had a love of traveling and spent most of her winters in Palm Springs with her second husband, Bill Riney. Mary Jane was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Family was very important to Mary Jane. She enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her children, grandchildren, and siblings.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, J.R. Hanis, and her husband of 27 years, Bill.

She is survived by her brother, Bob (Sandy) Hanis of Portland, OR; her daughters, Kristy McKechnie of Arcadia, KS, and Tracy (Chuck) Connealy of Leawood, KS; grandchildren, Austin and Jackson McKechnie, and Joel, Carly and Nathan Connealy; stepdaughters, Laura (Dave) Henness and Suzanne (Jim) Ahearn; grandchildren, William Henness, Margaret and Patrick Ahearn; and her nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic charities in honor of Mary Jane Riney. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS.
