Joyce Ann Scott, 86, of Scammon, KS, died on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, at the Medicalodge in Columbus.
She was born August 25, 1938, in Weir, KS, the daughter of Samuel D. and Faye E. (Allred) Ross.
Joyce was a graduate of Weir High School with the class of 1956.
On May 19, 1956, she was united in marriage to Maurice Scott in Columbus, KS; he preceded her in death on June 12, 2023.
Joyce was an active member of the South Broadway Baptist Church of Pittsburg where she was the church secretary for many years. She was also an ABWA Central Region Board Member for many years.
She was an active farm wife and homemaker for many years before attending the SEK Area Vocational-Technical School in Columbus, KS. On Jan. 6, 1975, she began as a student in the office education program. She completed the course on May 30, 1975. She then worked there in the communication skills lab and was a teacher’s aide before assuming her role as the office manager. She retired after 23 years of service, in June of 1998.
Survivors include; three children; Mark Scott and wife Debbie of Wellington, KS, Warren Scott and wife Charlotte of Scammon, KS, Janet Brooks and husband Steve of Columbus, KS, two sisters: Nancy Wallace and Barbara Semonick; twelve grandchildren; Maranda Scott, Caleb Scott, Laura Froman, Luke Scott, Silas Scott, Samuel Scott, Ryan Wydick, Elizabeth Tanner, Jacob Scott, Hannah Scott, Scott Brooks, Bree Stramel and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Michael Wayne Scott, five brothers: Samuel, Charles, James A. David D. and Thomas T. Ross; four sisters: Helen Kastelic, Mary O’Nelio, Emily Sue Potocnik and Rebecca Ross.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 30, 2024, at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir, KS with Pastor Dan Moss officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in New Pleasant View Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Weir from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024.
