Fireworks fans enjoy a pyrotechnic display that has become an annual tradition, in Pittsburg on Thursday. Born out of the restrictions of the pandemic, Chatters hosts a free fireworks display each year. Viewers bring their lawn chairs and line the streets and fields nearby to view the Independence Day tradition. Fireworks have played an important role in Independence Day celebrations almost from the beginning. Founding Father John Adams saw it coming.
The commemoration of America's independence "ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more," Adams wrote in a letter to his wife, Abigail, dated July 3, 1776.
