'We need a miracle'

Posted

PITTSBURG, Kan. — On Tuesday, May 20, Jordan Baldwin was hit by a car, and as of Friday afternoon, he remains in critical condition.

“We need lots of prayers and ultimately a miracle to happen,” Baldwin’s mother Sylvia Hensley said.

Baldwin was struck by a car traveling westbound on 4th Street. He had entered the road, and the driver was unable to stop the vehicle in time, according to a Pittsburg Police Department’s report.

After being driven by ambulance to Mercy Pittsburg, Stephanie Parnell, Baldwin’s aunt, said her nephew coded, and once he was revived, he was life-flighted to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.

Baldwin has a break in his upper back and neck, a broken arm, and severe head trauma. Doctors inserted a shunt to drain fluid from his brain, however, it remains swollen. Parnell was told his pupils are reactive, but today (Friday) the family was told there was nothing more the doctors could do.

“Their main concern is getting the swelling off the brain, and it's not going down a whole lot,” she said.  “They said time will tell, basically.”

Baldwin has not regained consciousness since the accident.

A relative of Baldwin’s started a donation page to help the family with medical expenses while facing this struggle. The family is also requesting prayers.

“Jordan is truly a special young man,” the donation page states. “He has a wonderful sense of humor, is always willing to help others, and brings so much joy to everyone around him. He loves playing video games, spending time with his friends, and cherishes his mom, dad, and four siblings more than anything.”
