BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. — A Galena man is in custody after attempting to elude law enforcement Thursday morning.
Just before 9 a.m., a Galena Police Officer attempted to stop a car, which had been previously reported stolen in Joplin, Missouri, as it was driving at a high rate of speed through town.
The suspect, 24-year-old Hunter Hayes-Bebee, of Galena, fled from authorities before going off the roadway on Highway 166 east of Baxter Springs and then fleeing on foot.
Law enforcement from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Galena Police Department, Baxter Springs Police Department and Kansas Highway Patrol established a perimeter and searched a wooded area south of the highway, where they located and apprehended Bebee.
Bebee was transported to the Cherokee County Jail where he is being held on allegations of possessing a stolen vehicle, criminal use of a weapon, fleeing law enforcement, interference of law enforcement, reckless driving, driving while suspended, driving with no liability insurance and illegal registration.
