PITTSBURG, Kan. — Pittsburg Multigenerational Chorus will once again gather for rehearsals under the direction of Susan Laushman at Pittsburg High School starting on August 30.
The choir was founded in 2009 by Pittsburg High School vocal music teacher Susan Laushman to bring together young voices from the high school with older voices from the community. Recent years have seen the choir with numbers as high as 150 and standing-room only audience attendance.
This year’s concert, “Doin’ Duets,” featuring duets from the late ‘50s to late ‘80s, is planned for Oct. 30 at Pittsburg’s Memorial Auditorium, with a 7pm evening performance. Special guests will be The Wayward Bettys!
The playlist includes such hits as “We Go Together” from Grease, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” by Elton John and Kiki Dee, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” by Starship, “The Sound of Silence” by Simon & Garfunkel, “Time of My Life,” from Dirty Dancing, and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell.
The group will be accompanied by a “House Band”; members of the group are select members of PHS band (including their band director Cooper Neil).
In addition to directing the entire show, Susan Laushman also arranged the music for both the choir and the house band.
Rehearsals are open to anyone of any age who would like to participate and will be held from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays in the PHS Auditorium with “Encore,” the high school choir.
A supplemental rehearsal option will be during “Girl’s Glee” class from 9 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
