Carrie Ann Longan Shead
Carrie Ann Longan Shead, 86, died February 18, 2023, in Lancaster, CA. She was born April 27, 1936, to Franklin and Myrtle Crookshank Longan in Mulberry, KS. She attended Mulberry Elementary and High School, graduating in 1954.
She married her high school sweetheart, William H. Shead, on February 2, 1952. They lived in Pittsburg, KS, until they moved to Henderson, NV, in 1964. Together they had nine sons: Donald, William John, Gregory, James, Jeffery, Timothy (all born in Kansas), Kevin, and twins Russell and Randall (born in Nevada). She was an excellent cook and enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She was a stay-at-home mother until the boys started school and then was employed as a bookkeeper in various offices in Henderson. She and her husband also had a commercial cleaning business.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sons Donald, James, and Kevin; her parents, her in-laws Elza and Mary Shead; brothers Harold, James, and Frederick; sisters Freda, Margaret, and Virginia; and caretaker granddaughter Sheila Ashley.
She is survived by six sons: John (Sandi) of Tennessee; Greg (Shelly), Jeff, Timothy (Bonnie) of Nevada; Russell (Lori), and Randall of Ohio. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.
Cremation took place in California, and burial services will be held at Highland Park Cemetery, Pittsburg, KS, on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with a celebration of life service and luncheon at the Mulberry Senior Center, Mulberry, KS, following the burial.
