2 sentenced in fentanyl death

PITTSBURG, Kan. — Two Crawford County residents were sentenced Monday for a 2023 fentanyl case that resulted in the death of 18-year-old Kooper Campiti.  

Tabitha Wilson, 39, of Pittsburg; and William Davis, 47, of Girard, were sentenced in Crawford County District Court.  

Wilson was convicted of Involuntary manslaughter and distribution of fentanyl. She was sentenced to 62 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC). Davis was convicted of distribution of fentanyl and was sentenced to 41 months in the (KDOC). 

Upon release from the KDOC, both will be placed on post release supervision and be required to Register pursuant to the Kansas Offender Registration Act.  

The defendants were found responsible for their roles in distributing fentanyl to Campiti, who was found unresponsive in his home in Frontenac on April 21, 2023. He died as a result of a fentanyl overdose. The Frontenac Police Department responded to the scene and began the initial investigation. The investigation determined that the sale of the fentanyl occurred in the City of Pittsburg. Detectives of the Pittsburg Police Department then took the lead in the case.  

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, The KBI and Homeland Security Investigation also assisted. The investigation was extensive and took almost a year to complete. 

The collaborative and tireless efforts of Law Enforcement officers lead to the arrests and convictions of Wilson and Davis.  

Crawford County Attorney, Reina Probert expressed her appreciation to the law enforcement officers that assisted in the investigation. She said the collaborative and tireless efforts of law enforcement officers led to the arrests and convictions of Wilson and Davis.  

Probert indicated that Fentanyl cases are increasing in Crawford County. Fentanyl is highly addictive and can be deadly. The Crawford County Attorney’s office will continue to prosecute these cases in an effort to combat the distribution of fentanyl in Crawford County.
